Built in the XIth century and within delightful settings, this perched village is nesting in the heart of a green and protected environment.
As well as a colourful historical heritage, Montauroux provides a range of cultural events and you will be enlightened by its dynamism and its quality of life.
There are 2 theories about Montauroux origins.
The first one, historical, tends to say that this word would come from the Latin language "montis Aurosis", Aurosa mountain, which was the name of a rich family who founded the village in 1040.
The other one, more regional, explains that in the Provencal language, "monte auroros" designs a mountain exposed to the winds.
Montauroux and its 5000 inhabitants used to be an agricultural village living from the olive trees, vineyards, and used flowers for perfume, is now turning towards tourism, thanks to its great advantages : its feudal ruins, its ancient monuments, its ancestral and local traditions, or more simply, its little streets and provençal places.
Montauroux is worth seeing because the place has so many treasures, and people like to name it "the village of the fountains" or "the balcony of the Esterel".
Visiting Montauroux village remains the best way to keep the more perfect memory of it.
